PHS Annual Meeting – Highlights and Key Takeaways

Board President Chris Torto opened the meeting with a warm welcome, followed by remarks from Mayor Steven Meiner, who provided a recap of recent Spring Break measures, updated the community on the replacement of defective light poles on Palm & Hibiscus Islands, and expressed his continued support for the community and its initiatives.

Police & Security Updates
Sgt. Llamoca shared crime statistics from the past year and spoke about ongoing efforts to enhance safety across the islands. Sgt. Fernandez of the Marine Patrol gave an overview of waterway patrol activities and enforcement measures to keep our shoreline secure.

2024–2025 PHS Priorities
President Chris Torto led a presentation on current and upcoming priorities for the Association, with updates from several Board and Executive Committee members:

  • Hibiscus Undergrounding: FPL has completed undergrounding for 75% of Hibiscus homes. The majority of AT&T customers have already switched to underground fiber, and Breezeline customers will soon be able to switch to the new system as well.

  • Palm Island Undergrounding: AT&T has installed buried fiber on East Palm and will soon complete the installation of overhead fiber on West Palm Island. FPL is expected to underground West Palm Island under its SSUP program in the near future at no cost to residents. Final binding cost estimates for AT&T and Breezeline will be available soon.

  • Star Island Water Tower: The Mayor’s Office oversaw maintenance on the historic monument last December, and there is now momentum building for a full restoration of the structure.

  • Community Events: After reviewing last year’s Halloween event, our Special Events committee discussed the upcoming Spring Fling, scheduled for May 10th.

The Nominating Committee Chair introduced the proposed slate of Board Members for the coming term, which was approved by a show of hands.
