08 Feb New Biscayne Bay Fireworks Prohibition
The Miami Beach Commission unanimously approved legislation to prohibit the use of fireworks on Biscayne Bay and in all residential areas of the city, except on three designated holidays: New Year’s Day, July 4th, and New Year’s Eve.
According to the Commission memo, one of the key reasons for this ordinance is the environmental impact of fireworks, which release harmful chemicals—including sulfur, copper, and lithium—as well as debris such as plastic and metallic materials, polluting both the air and water.
The PHS Islands Association extends its appreciation to Commissioner Tanya Bhatt and Commissioner Laura Dominguez for sponsoring this ordinance, which passed its first reading in December. We also thank all Commissioners for their unanimous support in approving the measure during its second reading on February 3rd.
