Beach Corridor Rapid Transit Project Public Meeting

Miami Dade County hybrid public meeting: Presentation of the Beach Corridor Rapid Transit Project’s DEA.

The Draft Environmental Assessment (“DEA”) for the Beach Corridor Rapid Transit Project Bay Crossing (Trunkline) was presented at the County’s August 9th hybrid meeting, with 60 people in attendance and more than 100 joining on Zoom. The DEA document was prepared to satisfy the National Environmental Policy Act and is available for review and comment through August 19, 2022.

Comments regarding the DEA can be submitted atĀ DTPW-BCT-EA@miamidade.gov

Prior to the meeting, the PHS Islands Association Board convened to discuss the latest developments in the Beach Corridor project. Several aspects of the current project were considered including the target ridership question, the “piecemeal” nature of the project, necessitating multiple transfers for commuters to reach Miami Beach, as well as its $1 billion project cost. The height and numerous columns of the rail would also spoil the open, iconic view of Downtown Miami from the MacArthur Causeway.
While our Board agreed that a viable rapid transit solution to take cars off the MacArthur Causeway is absolutely necessary, the Board took the unanimous position that theĀ SMART Beach Corridor project is not the proper solution.
