Presidential Debate Traffic Impact

MACARTHUR CAUSEWAY / I-395 CLOSURE

From 8AM, Thursday, October 15 through 1AM Friday, October 16

Due to the United States Secret Service’s security plan for the upcoming Presidential Debate at the Adrienne Arsht Center on Thursday, October 15, the MacArthur Causeway / I-395 will be fully closed to eastbound and westbound traffic.

The closure will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 15 until Friday, October 16 at 1 a.m.

During this time, please plan accordingly and plan ahead. We encourage you to use the Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195) or the 79 Street Causeway (SR 934) to enter and exit the city as alternates. The Venetian Causeway will be open, but heavy traffic is expected for the area

Attention: Residents on Palm, Star and Hibiscus Islands
In order to facilitate the safe and efficient passage of vehicles to/from your work/home location on the day of the event, Miami Beach Police will implementing a mechanism to quickly identify vehicles that must access islands located along the MacArthur Causeway. The ONLY access location/screening area will be within the 1200 Block of 5 Street in the westbound lanes just west of the intersection at 5 Street at Alton Road (see map re: checkpoint location).

To access this screening location, traffic must approach from the right southbound Alton Road lane. Once in the southbound lane, vehicles shall prominently display the entry pass on their dashboard.

Palm, Star and Hibiscus Island Residents can request an entry pass by contacting your Homeowner Association prior to Monday, October 12 at 5 p.m.
