New Overnight Mooring Legislation

In early May, both the Florida House and Senate passed the Anchoring Limitation Area Bill, which was signed into law on May 19. This legislation establishes new anchoring limitation areas in Biscayne Bay, specifically within Miami-Dade County. It grants local governments the authority to regulate vessels that anchor overnight (for one hour or more) in the same location for more than thirty days, with the exception of designated mooring fields.

Under the new law, overnight anchoring is strictly prohibited in the immediate waters between the PHS Islands.

We extend our sincere thanks to Commissioner David Suarez, who championed this bill at the municipal level, and to PHS Association President Chris Torto, whose parallel efforts were instrumental in its passage.

Miami Beach Marine Patrol is expected to begin enforcement in PHS Island waters in the coming weeks.
